Summer ending
Where were you when
Pink sky melted into purple sea
And flung open we were wild
Children running carefree
Six and a half days without you
I counted all the ways
How I could live without you
Would I plan the rest of my days
For only nights eating alone
Waiting no more for you to come home
Can plants seek eternal sunlight
Patient in the canopy shade
With weekends half emptied
Will all memories soon fade
But then I hear the rattle of rocks
Gravel grinding or a rough wind
We stopped to listen and pray
Darling, you walk in and I forget
Today’s thoughts, spirited away
All I know is what I don’t know —
He screamed with his hand
She threw a chair back and ran
The clock counts 3 hours or less
Summer is too short a date
Tonight my only words are silent
